HNS KINDNESS: REAL STORIES
We started our day by viewing the almost-complete HNS Kindness: Real Stories video.
2G loved seeing the result of their hard work.
Those who wanted a little glimpse under the video-editing hood got it!
WHAT’S NEXT?
We can’t rest on our laurels: too much more to do!
We ran through the list with 2G.
And 2G was keen to get going.
Before our 9:00-9:30a Brain Break, many students ran through their lines in Can Vikings Learn to be Kind?
Very impressed by the increased reading fluency, confidence, and determination to perform well.
BROADCASTING FROM GLOVER HALL
As the WiFi connection with the HNS gym isn’t the greatest, we needed to find a new spot on campus to broadcast from.
After speaking with David Sui, our IT guy, it seems Glover Hall — the music room of years past — will be out best bet. He put a base station in their when 2G used Glover during the street work on Nenue Place.
We will plan to process with our streamers around the green and by all classrooms (except Keki 3s) before the broadcast begins.
BRAIN BREAK PLANNING
Many of the scenes in Can Vikings Learn to be Kind? need to be filmed on the playground.
As before, a number of students took an interest in thinking it all through.
Can Rilen run on all fours (as scripted) without ripping up his Viking armor? (We decided to cut the running on all fours: he did that in the just-completed video!)
How can Wyatt’s lines make sense? (We’ll cast him as a leader high atop the play structure, speaking to his Viking warriors on the ground below, warriors who shout back their support)
What resources are available on the playground that we could use? (Tires! Let’s create a Tire Wall!)
One student was dispatched with my camera to take pictures of a tire wall structure we could use as reference.
Again, impressed by the interest in (the boring process of) planning shoots.
DAILY DICTATION
While 2G g-r-o-a-n-e-d at the prospect of Daily Dictation today — they just love their 100% Independent Work Tickets — any casual observer would not the same thrill at correctly writing phonics-based sentences — and getting those extra points that might be going!
CAN VIKINGS LEARN TO BE KIND? — VIDEO #2
After Snack Break, we got to work on Can Vikings Learn to be Kind? + 100% Independent Work Tickets.
Great fun watching students work on their lines before shooting — on their own initiative!
Yes, both videos are WHNS-TV productions!
2G are pros now, so we marched through a good many lines.
NOT SO MINDFUL DR. CAT
I’ll blame it on my 2nd COVID vaccination jab — I did end up leaving a little early today to head for my bed! — but…
… when I shot the cameo by Ms. Sakiko after 2G’s Mindfulness session…
… and I shot it twice…
• Video #1 — not!
• Video #2 — not!
… I later discovered I shot two lovely stills: no video!
There’s always tomorrow…
SAND TRAY MANIA CONTINUES
We can’t thank everyone who made the 2G sand tray a reality.
The sand tray remains popular amongst every 2G student!
It’s great fun to overhear conversations that start with, “The jewels are buried under the mountain guarded by the lion!”
TOMORROW
Among other things, we’ll be filming “Then Lion & The Mouse.”
Ms. Wilks and Ms. Bridgewater will be reprising last year’s performance, adapted for video and adapted to our courage/kindness theme
HEY, WE DID THAT GRACE YESTERDAY!
Before lunch, we say grace.
2G are used to my line: “Imagine your are entering a church, a synagogue, a mosque, a shrine, a temple, a cathedral — and be that respectful for grace.”
I wait for students to stop leaning against cubbies and posts, to stop looking all about the place and rocking back and forth on feet, etc. before proceeding.
And, in truth, we’ve been using our prayer from the time 2G led Flag Assembly for many, many days.
Someone’s finally noticed!
: )
Let us pray.
Lord, help us be gen-tle, • thought-ful, • help-ful, • and for-gi-ving when it would be so easy to be ang-ry.
Give us the cour-age to be kind.
In Christ’s name we pray.
Amen.
