Another super-duper day in 2G.
But we’re not complaining!
MORNING CIRCLE
Morning Circle is a great time to address common issues in math and phonics.
Today, we reviewed “tens and ones.” The 10-base system is foundational in math.
What helps young people “get” the difference between “two tens” and “two ones” is to speak of tens as “ten sticks” or “ten frames.” This helps with counting: sticks/frames vs. single units.
Two ten STICKS and three ones is 23.
Four ten FRAMES and seven ones is 47
Seven DIMES and four pennies is 74¢
MINDFULNESS
On Tuesdays, Ms. Sakiko has kindly offered to continue Mindfulness with 2G.
Mindfulness is a marvelous support for 7 and 8 year olds learning… impulse control!

2 PAIRS OF WHITE TERNS? WE HOPE SO!
This morning, the pair of white terns we’ve been seeing in the kukui-nut tree by the main gate were in. Later, just one hung out there.
And she kept checkin the puka on the branch. Is she close to placing her egg? (We also saw some tern yoga!)
Then in the kukui-nut tree closest to Kalanianaʻole Highway, we found another pair. The many kukui-nut leaves made getting a clear shot hard, but 2G was able to spot them.
This is Tsuki’s birth tree, from the end of last year.
