IXL MATH

On Thursday, 2G student learned how to sign onto their IXL.com accounts.

Students were familiar with IXL from 1G, although they had to learn a new USERNAME and a new PASSWORD.

This year:

  • Usernames follow a pattern: first name + hns + 253 no spaces

  • Username example: cathns253

  • Passwords: student birthday date

  • Password example: a student born on New Year’s Day in 2014 — password = 010114

  • Single digits (for months and dates) need a zero in front: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09

KIDNAPPING 2G MENTORS

2G students were reluctant to let Lauren and Emily go.

DOODLE CARDS

Take a look at the walls of the 2G classroom and you’ll see many, many Doodle Cards!

On Thursday, 2G students learned how to do Doodle Cards.

Doodle Cards are NOT:

  • drawings

  • scribbles

Doodle Cards are designs, patterns.

The best Doodle Cards

  • Are colorful, complex

  • Show “power coloring”

  • Have no white space

  • Induce viewer awe and copy cats galore!

A while ago, Lauren left a Doodle Card on the board at the front of 2G.

It inspired several students!

Including Lauren, who thought she “could do better.”

Emily’s Doodle Card (top) also inspired (bottom).

PHONICS: “EXPLODE THE CODE”

“Explode the Code” is our Orton-Gillingham phonics program.

Not only do students learn to read and write with “Explode the Code", they enjoy it!

Today we dived into Book 3. As students have familiarity with “Explode the Code” from 1G, they were quickly off and running!
