• Sidebar squares: Lar’s 38th birthday — Lars, Cat’s oldest, lives in Seattle with Jen, Bennie (pictured) and Marcelo (asleep somewhere).

On 12.22.21 Lars turned 38! Cat now has a son with gray in his beard! (But Cat still feels 36 inside.) Thanks Zoom!

 

• Tomás & Haley — US Navy band members joined us for dinner, without instruments.

(When Tomás stays in our ʻohana apartment he brings, and practices, his clarinet.)

 

• 2G’s Xmas windows — For many years now, Cat’s 2G class makes and decorates (with construction paper) 3 fir trees and 3 palm trees and hangs them in the classroom window.

At night, they glow!

• Greg — Since they met at a martial-arts camp in 1985, Cat and Greg have been BFFs. As theyʻve never lived in the same town, theyʻve used all available technology to keep in touch: smoke signals, telephone, postcards, letters, photography, videography, small packets and packages, faxes, email, text messages, FaceTime and now Zoom! They look forward to holographic communication, but not MZ’s Meta-nonsense. Greg, being a painter, prefers the real world. Cat too.

• Catʻs hair — For 25 or so years Cat has cut his hair short, very short.

Then, on his 62nd birthday, he decided to see what might happen if he let it grow out again.

Back in the 1960s and 70s Cat longed to grow his hair long, but his hair was so thick and curly/wavy just meant he grew an afro, and he didnʻt want to iron his hair.

Perhaps age has thinned his hair and he can, at last, look cool.

Only 2022 will tell…

• “Perhaps it runs in the family?” — Lars
