 • Sidebar squares: Macau (& Tomás) — Macau has been with us for 3 years and is now a much less anxious little dude, although he remains psychotically attached** to Anne.

Tomás is a friend from the St. Andrew’s Cathedral Choir and a frequent ʻohana apartment guest.

Tomás plays a mean clarinet in the US Navy band. He is the best of friends to Macau.

** After Macau’s trachea collapsed — age, genetics — he became even more psychotically attached to Anne, if that was possible. Yes, it’s like having a fussy baby.

• R.I.P. underwater camera — Cat’s ever-leaky “good-to-50-meters!” Nikon finally died, but not before Anne and a few fish got snapped!

(No camera replacement yet. Any suggestions?)

• University of Hawai’i, Mānoa —The UH Mānoa campus is a botanical garden.

It also sports wonderful architecture, including a Thai sala (pavilion) and a Korean temple.

Macau loves to walk there, although he must be picked up when visiting the Japanese garden!

• Hanauma Bay — Closed during COVID, then re-opened with major reductions in visitor numbers, the always plentiful fish are even more plentiful!

Fabulous snorkeling, especially over the reef.

“Kama’aina [residents] can now visit the nature preserve without a reservation from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., Wednesdays through Sundays.” Oh yeah!
