Cap’n Tomas & the Kane’ohe Sandbar
While in the Navy, Tomas earned his certification to pilot the pontoon boats docked at the Kane’ohe Marine Base.
Once certified, he lost no time procuring an appropriate hat and inviting friends to join him for a ride to the disappearing island: the sandbar is visible at low tide, and vanishes when the tide comes in.
Great snorkeling is to be had — Anne’s brother once saw a “praying mantis” (by which he meant a “manta ray”) — and we saw a number of honu (sea turtles) who had parked themselves under coral shelves!
